The Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Awareness is suitable for candidates who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition of dementia. There are approximately 750,000 people in this country who have some form of a dementia. This course is designed for anyone who wishes to improve their knowledge and understanding of the condition and of how to apply the principles of ‘person-centred’ dementia care. The award aims to provide candidates with an understanding of dementia; the functioning of the brain and the memory process. It also outlines and encourages the candidate to use a person centred approach in order to understand emotions and behaviours they may find challenging. And finally it looks to promote the application of person-centred principles to everyday care activities.
Entry Requirements There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.
Course Syllabus
Unit 1: Understanding Dementia Unit 2: Understanding person-centred Dementia Care Unit 3: Understanding ‘Challenging’ Behaviour in the context of Dementia Unit 4: Applying a person-centred approach to Dementia Care.

Study Hours This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper. The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 120 hrs.
Qualifications
On completion of your course, you will receive two qualifications: Qualification 1: Dementia Awareness Certificate Dementia Awareness Certificate issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges, entitling you to use the letters SAC Cert after your name. Qualification 2: Level 2 Dementia Awareness Award This Course leads to an NCFE Level 2 Award Certificate for successful learners. That means that it is independantly accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland (in which case GCSE's are at levels 1 and 2 and A Levels are at level 3). In accrediting the programme at level 2, NCFE attests that its learning outcomes are at an equivalent level to a level 2 national qualification. This award has been designed by Stonebridge Associated Colleges to meet specific learners' or employers' requirements. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE.
