Identity theft is not a new crime, it is probably as old as crime itself, it was until not so long ago known as impersonation. At the present moment it is estimated that one in four will be a victim of identity theft in the next twelve months and an estimated five hundred percent increase will occur in growth annually. The results of identity theft can be devastating for the victim. We tend to think of financial loss when we think of becoming a victim of this crime; this though is only part of the many problems that may come about. This course aims to make the student aware of the different types of identity theft that are currently employed as well as how to identity the signs of identity theft and ways and means of reducing the risk of identity theft.
